Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 13, 2026

Your memories are personal, and so is your information. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to write it in plain language.

In short: your recordings, videos, and photos are private. We don’t sell your data, we don’t show ads, and we never use your private memories to train AI. You stay in control of who sees what.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to give you the service and keep your memories safe.

Information you give us

  • Account details — your name, email address, and password when you create an account.
  • Your content — the voice recordings, videos, photos, written entries, titles, and notes you create or upload, along with any people, dates, or delivery instructions you attach to them.
  • Sharing details — the email addresses of family members you invite to view or receive your memories.
  • Payment details — when you subscribe, your card information is entered directly into our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Messages to us — anything you send when you contact us for help.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage information — basic details about how you use the service, such as pages viewed and actions taken, to help us keep it working and improve it.
  • Device information — your browser type, device, and general location (city or region), which help us with security and support.
  • Cookies — small files that keep you signed in and remember your preferences. See “Cookies” below.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the service — store your memories, play them back, and deliver scheduled messages on the dates you choose.
  • Create and manage your account and subscription.
  • Let you share memories with the people you invite.
  • Send you important service messages (such as a welcome email, receipts, or account notices).
  • Provide customer support and respond to your questions.
  • Keep the service secure and prevent fraud or abuse.
  • Improve and develop the service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your private recordings, videos, or photos to train artificial-intelligence models.

How we share information

Your memories are private. We share information only in these limited ways:

  • With people you choose — memories are shared only with the family members you specifically invite or schedule a delivery to.
  • With service providers — trusted companies that help us run the service, such as our hosting provider, our payment processor (Stripe), and our email delivery provider. They may only use your information to perform services for us.
  • For legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of you, us, or others.
  • In a business transfer — if the service is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

We never make your private memories public, and we never sell your data to advertisers.

Storage and security

Your memories are stored privately. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and access controls that limit who can reach your content.

No online service can promise perfect security, but protecting your memories is central to what we do, and we work continually to keep them safe.

How long we keep your information

We keep your memories and account information for as long as your account is active, so your content stays available to you and the people you share it with.

If you close your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep certain records for legal, tax, or security reasons. If you would like your content removed, contact us at hello@myjournalstory.com.

International users & data transfers

My Journal Story is based in the State of Utah, United States, and the service is available worldwide. We store and process information in the United States and with trusted service providers who may operate elsewhere.

If you use the service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your own country. Where required, we take appropriate steps to protect international transfers in line with applicable law. By using the service, you consent to this transfer and processing.

Your choices and rights

You have control over your information. You can:

  • View, edit, or delete your memories at any time from your account.
  • Update your account details, or change what you have shared and with whom.
  • Ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it.
  • Unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in those emails.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). To exercise any right, email us at hello@myjournalstory.com and we will respond as required by law.

Children’s privacy

My Journal Story is intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A parent or guardian may choose to include a child in family memories they create and control. If you believe a child has provided us personal information directly, please contact us and we will remove it.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and keep the service secure. We may also use limited analytics to understand how the service is used so we can improve it. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though turning off necessary cookies may affect how the service works.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make meaningful changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, let you know by email or a notice in the service. Please review it occasionally.
