Terms of Service
Last updated: June 1, 2026
These are the terms on which My Journal Story is offered to you. By using the service, you agree to them. We have written them as plainly as we can.
What My Journal Story is
My Journal Story is a subscription service for recording, organizing, and — at your discretion — scheduling delivery of personal voice and video journal entries. The service is operated by My Journal Story (referred to as “we,” “us,” or “ours”). You are referred to as “you” or “the member.”
Your account
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By signing up you confirm that the email address you use is yours and that the information you provide is accurate.
You are responsible for keeping your password secure. You may not let other people use your account. If your account is compromised, contact us immediately.
You may close your account at any time from your account settings. Closure deletes your data per the schedule in our Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions, billing, and refunds
We offer the following plans:
- Free — $0/month, limited features and entry count.
- Standard — $9/month or $89/year.
- Family — $19/month or $189/year, up to five members.
- Founder Lifetime — $499 one-time, limited to the first 1,000 members.
- Legacy — $1,499 one-time, concierge tier.
Recurring subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on every plan. Email founder@myjournalstory.com within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you in full, no questions asked.
Founders’ lifetime pricing. If you are one of the first 1,000 members, the price you pay today is the price you continue to pay for as long as you maintain an active subscription, even when public pricing changes. This is a promise, not a marketing slogan.Stripe processes all payments. We never see or store your full credit card number. By making a payment you also agree to Stripe’s terms.
What we ask of you
You may not use My Journal Story to:
- Upload content that infringes someone else’s intellectual property or privacy.
- Upload illegal content, including but not limited to content depicting the abuse of children.
- Harass, threaten, defame, or stalk other people.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload the service.
- Sell or sublicense access to your account.
- Use the service to send spam or unsolicited bulk communications.
We will close any account that violates these rules and, where appropriate, report it to law enforcement.
What you own
You own everything you create in My Journal Story. We do not claim any ownership of your entries, transcripts, photos, or scheduled deliveries.
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, transcribe, organize, and deliver your content only for the purpose of operating the service you have asked us to provide. This license terminates when you delete the content or close your account.
You do not grant us, or any third party, the right to publish your content, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
What we own
The My Journal Story name, logo, and the design and code of the service are ours. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute them without permission.
Scheduled and posthumous deliveries
If you schedule a delivery for a future date, we will attempt to deliver the entry on that date. We cannot guarantee delivery if the recipient’s email address has become invalid, if their email provider rejects the message, or if the recipient has died.
Posthumous delivery requires two of three trusted contacts to confirm the unlock, plus documentary evidence (typically a death certificate). In the first year of the service, every posthumous unlock is reviewed manually by our team.
My Journal Story is not a substitute for a legal will, trust, or other estate-planning document. We strongly encourage you to consult an attorney for legal matters related to your estate. Entries scheduled or addressed in My Journal Story have no legal force on their own.
Service availability
We aim for 99.9% uptime but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. We may temporarily suspend the service for maintenance or in response to security incidents. We will give reasonable notice when we can.
If we materially change the service in a way that reduces its value to you, we will give you 60 days’ notice and offer a prorated refund.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these terms or the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months immediately before the claim arose.
We are not liable for:
- Indirect, consequential, special, or punitive damages.
- Loss of data, except to the extent that loss is the direct result of our gross negligence or willful misconduct.
- Failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including but not limited to internet outages, cyberattacks, and acts of god.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim arising out of your breach of these terms or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [TO BE SET — typically Delaware or your state of incorporation]. Any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state and federal courts of that state.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms materially, we will notify every active member at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued use of the service after the change takes effect constitutes acceptance.
Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest of the terms remain in force.
Entire agreement
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us. They supersede any prior agreement.
